It happens to all of us: we sit down with our journal in front of us, pen in one hand, the other on our forehead because we just can’t cope with everything that’s whooshing through our brains…
It can be quite an overwhelming experience, am I right? We want to get these jumbled sounds out of our brains but we can’t find the words to express them. That’s where this post comes in.
I want to share some journaling prompts with you, that cover a range of topics, just to get your hand moving and the words flowing.
Prompt – If
One of the most popular prompts is the ‘if’. It can be positive or challenging and they’re good to get your imagination flowing.
- If I won the lottery, I would…
- If I could talk to my pet…
- If I could only eat one thing for the rest of my life…
- If I could go back 5 years…
- If I could go forward 5 years…
Prompt – Favourite
Favourite is a positive prompt to write with. You get to think about the things that make you happy, and why they spark joy within you. A lot of things bring back memories too.
- Favourite 5 films
- Favourite restaurant
- Favourite time of year
- Favourite quote
- Favourite song
Prompt – When
‘When’ is a difficult word because it forces us to think about a specific time. It helps to focus in on one particular emotion or time and allows you to explore the situation freely.
- When I was 6, I wanted…
- When I am (30/40/50), I will…
- When I saw (someone), I felt…
- When I met (partner/friend), they were…
- When the sun goes down…
Let me know how you get on with your journaling prompts and if you have any others that you want to share!
